Sachiko is a 1 year old female spayed Alaskan Husky dog hit by a car after jumping from the bed of her owner’s pick up truck while traveling on the freeway.
CT evaluation of the pelvis and proximal pelvic limbs confirmed a comminuted fracture of the distal right femur and luxation of the left coxofemoral joint. The intrapelvic soft tissues including the urinary bladder and rectum imaging normally. While screening orthogonal radiographs revealed most of the bony changes noted on CT evaluation, 3D volume reformatting allowed a unique perspective of the injuries that aided in the surgical planing. Soft tissue windowed axial images confirmed the absence of injury to the intrapelvic soft tissues that could have complicated recovery from Sachiko’s accident.
